The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

If you’ve not heard of Rev-A-Shelf, you will soon. And often. In fact, you’ll hear about Rev-A-Shelf now in this review of the best Rev-A-Shelf products.

Rev-A-Shelf is the Louisville-based manufacturer that takes the difficulty out of household organization with a host of convenient, clever, space-saving products that are, well, just plain cool. This summer, Rev-A-Shelf acquired Sidelines Inc. of Scottsdale AZ – a pretty decent producer of personal organization devices itself.

Their product line includes organization and lighting products for the bathroom, bedroom, clothing closet, kitchen and garage. So, what sort of items do they make? Think lazy Susans. Think closet accessories. Think pots and pans organizers. Think cabinets. Think trash cans. Think shelves. Think “Why didn’t I think of that?”

And now, with the acquisition of Sidelines Inc., Rev-A-Shelf has products and options that pretty much cover the whole house and the whole family.

We’ve accumulated a list of the best Rev-A-Shelf products that might interest you. These are not in order of preference, but all represent a great value for homeowners who want to get their act together.

Best Rev-A-Shelf Products for Your Kitchen and Home

1. Rev-A-Shelf Pull Out Single Waste Trash Container Bin

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest rev-a-shelf trash can
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Sturdy Chrome Roll-Out Brackets and Hardware

An under-sink trash can is nothing new, but one that pulls out on a sliding bracket is. Having a trash can that pulls out completely is a real boost, as it gives access to the full opening at the top for emptying large containers or that big platter of leftover turkey bones.

It ships with a 35-quart trash bin and sturdy chrome brackets and hardware for a smooth roll-out (and roll-back-in).

It doesn’t ship with a lid, however. You can order a flip-lid for it for around $25, and that should be considered a must-have option for odor control.

Before ordering, make sure your cabinet opening is at least 10.75 inches wide and 19.25 inches tall and that there is 22 inches of available depth, unobstructed by pipes, drains or electrical lines. It doesn’t have to go under the sink, but that’s the most logical place for it.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width:10.75 inches
  • Height:19.25 inches
  • Depth: 22 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

2. Rev-A-Shelf Double Pull Out Waste Bin Container

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest pull out trash bins
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Holds Two 35-quart Trash Bins

This is very similar to the single-bin unit listed above, but holds two 35-quart trash bins. For the double unit, your base cabinet needs to have a bit larger opening (14.5 inches wide by 19.5 inches tall, with 22 inches of depth).

The brackets and hardware are plenty strong enough to carry the double load.

You could use one bin for trash and the other for recyclables, or one bin for paper waste and one for food waste.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: (Minimum Opening) 14.5 inches
  • Height: (Minimum Opening) 19.375 inches
  • Depth: (Minimum Opening) 22.125 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

Your Garbage Disposal is Not A Trash Can

One of the most common plumbing calls is due to a clogged garbage disposer, or a clogged drain line coming from the kitchen. This is almost always a case of disposer abuse – asking the disposer to grind up massive chunks of food and wash them away in a whoosh.

The garbage disposer is meant for removing uneaten food that is rinsed off plates prior to washing, or in conjunction with an automatic dishwasher. That’s it. It is not designed for grinding up baked potato skins, half a chuck roast or a bowl full of dried-out mac and cheese. You run the risk of clogging the drain, and the further down range the clog occurs, the harder it will be to find it and remove it.

So, scrape big stuff into the trash and and only use the garbage disposer for the small stuff. Run hot water for at least a minute to rinse all the matter through the pipes. Also, regularly use a garbage disposal cleaning capsule.

3. Rev-A-Shelf 2-Tier Pull-Out Cabinet Organizer

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest pull out cabinet organizer - rev-a-shelf
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Two Completely Independent Pull-Out Shelves

We’ve all been there: You need the mixer, but in order to get to it, you have to pull out the measuring bowl, the cheese grater, the tea pitcher, a potato masher and that ghastly sugar bowl that Aunt Erma made in ceramics class at the senior citizens center.

With the Rev-A-Shelf two-tier cabinet organizer, you find what you need without rearranging half the kitchen. Two shelves roll out independently of one another. They’re strong enough for the heaviest load, and the distance between the shelves is adjustable.

Installation is easy. You’ll need a minimum 16-inch opening in the cabinet, but it works just as well with larger openings.

The shelves, brackets and hardware are high quality. The shelves roll out on sturdy ball bearings.

The Quick List:

  • Category:Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 14.8 inches
  • Height: 19 inches
  • Depth: 22 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

4. Rev-A-Shelf Swing Out Complete Tall/Pantry

best swing out pantry
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Gets the Most Out of Available Space

Most pantries are just shelf units with doors in front of them. Short of re-setting the shelf height – and some won’t even do that – there’s not a whole lot you can do with them.

Not so with the Rev-A-Shelf. Two huge, seven-tier units attach to the interior of your cabinet doors. There are two interior shelf units that pivot to allow access to the goodies. And finally, way in the back, there are regular shelves that are the only thing this unit has in common with traditional pantries.

This unit is 25.75 inches wide, 57 inches tall and yet only 7.5 inches deep.(Minimum opening required is 25.875 inches, 57.125 inches and 7.75 inches, respectively.)

It might pose a challenge to retrofit this into an existing cabinet system that doesn’t have the essential opening space (it’s made for a 36-inch full height base cabinet), but during a kitchen remodel or cabinet replacement, this should be a top priority.

You’ll run out of fingers and toes trying to count the number of shelves this has. (Hint: It’s 28).

It’s constructed of solid hardwood maple that has been cured with UV light for long-lasting beauty and resistance to chipping. The hinges and hardware are heavy duty, as they should be for the load they will be asked to bear. The shelves have chrome rails to prevent tall items from falling out.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 25.75 inches
  • Height: 57 inches
  • Depth: 7.5 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Intermediate

The Kitchen: A Make-or-Break Feature in Home Sales

According to Realtor.com, the kitchen is the most important feature when trying to sell a house. A showpiece kitchen helps sell a house more than any other single feature. Nearly 70 percent of potential home buyers stated that the kitchen was the most important selling point in a house.

Homebuyers in general have become obsessed with high-end kitchen appliances, cabinets and countertops.

Kitchen countertop materials trending right now include granite, engineered stone, quartz, composite and butcher block. On the stone and quartz varieties, darker shades are in vogue right now, but on butcher block tops, lighter is preferred.

Fully matched kitchen appliances continue to be popular, almost to the point of must-have. Black stainless steel is also showing up in a lot of kitchens.

State-of-the-art, “smart” appliances with WiFi, Bluetooth an online capabilities are the wave of the future, and it would be a real plus to have those in your kitchen at house-selling time.

While having all the right features in the kitchen doesn’t necessarily mean you can bump up your asking price, it does make it easier to sell your house. onvenient accessories, like Rev-A-Shelf roll-out shelves and trash cans, can certainly add their weight toward tipping the balance in favor of the seller.

The Rev-A-Shelf products on our list represent just the tip of the iceberg in terms of kitchen remodeling and improvement. For more ideas, you can visit them on Facebook, Twitter, Houzz (a home remodeling exchange) and at many home shows across the country.

5. Rev A Shelf Five-Inch Pull Out Kitchen Cabinet Organizer

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest kitchen cabinet organizer - rev-a-shelf
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Easy to Install on the Backside of Cabinet Doors

You know those narrow kitchen cabinet doors that open up to some pretty lame shelves inside, if anything at all? It’s pretty much wasted space, except to store cookie sheets sideways. This is the fix for that situation.

The Rev-A-Shelf five-inch organizer turns the shelves perpendicular to the cabinet face and rolls them out for easy access. This is great for jars, canisters, small plastic containers and whatnot.

Sturdy brackets attach to the cabinet bottom, and the shelves attach to the cabinet door. As far as installation goes, they’ve taken into account the difficulty of working behind something, backwards. Their patented door mount brackets have five full inches of “wiggle room” to make installing the mounting screws easier.

The three shelves can be installed at varying heights to maximize available head room.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width:5 inches, 6.5 inches or 8 inches, according to ordering preference
  • Height: 24.5 inches
  • Depth: 22.5 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

6. Rev-A-Shelf 8″ Soft-Close Cabinet Base Organizer

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest soft-close cabinet organizers
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Utilizes Otherwise Unused Space

This is similar to the five-inch pullout unit, but instead of shelves, it has a pegboard for hanging skillets and small pans. This is intended for use with an eight-inch cabinet door and measures eight inches wide, 25.5 inches high and 22.5 inches deep.

It will hold a whopping 75 pounds of cooking utensils, and it can definitely handle Grandma’s cast iron skillet.

The door mounting hardware is adjustable by up to five inches, to ease the installation process in tight quarters. It includes assorted hooks and pegs that can be arranged in a multitude of configurations.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 8 inches
  • Height: 25.5 inches
  • Depth: 22.5 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

7. Rev-A-Shelf Kidney Shape Lazy Susan Set

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest lazy Susan - rev-a-shelf
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Two Shelves Turn Independently of Each Other

Rev-A-Shelf didn’t reinvent the wheel with this lazy Susan set, but they have improved on the geometry with kidney-shaped shelves. The kidney design – a circle with a notch taken out of it – makes it easier to retrieve things from the lower shelf, which turns independently of the top shelf.

The user simply rotates the lower shelf until the desired item is in view, and then turns the top shelf until the notch is directly over the item.

The shelves can be set at whatever height is most convenient, and the telescoping center post can be adjusted to accommodate cabinet heights of 26 to 32 inches.

The shelves are heavy load-bearing, and the hardware – as with all of the Rev-A-Shelf products, is more than adequate for the task.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 18 inches, 24 inches, 28 inches and 32 inches according to order preference
  • Height: 32 inches
  • Depth: 18 inches, 24 inches, 28 inches, 32 inches according to order preference
  • Ease of Installation: Intermediate

8. Rev-A-Shelf Tiered Cutlery Only Drawer Organizers

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest cutlery drawer organizers
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Two Tiers to Hold Additional Cutlery

Rev-A-Shelf has tried to improve on every other kitchen cabinet idea, so why not the basic cutlery tray? This attaches to the cabinet front and replaces your existing cutlery tray, box, loosely organized piles of knives, forks and spoons, etc.

The cool thing about this item is that it’s two-tiered. You can put your most-used implements on the top tier and the others on the lower tier. If you need one from the lower tier, the top tier slides forward to expose the lower tier, much like the tiers in a tackle box.

Assembled, it is 20.5 inches wide, 21 inches deep and 3.75 inches tall. It’s for 1 ½ face frame cabinet construction only.

It’s a very handy item and it doubles your drawer space, but it is a bit pricey for what it does. If you’re doing a full kitchen remodel, go ahead and spring for it and you’ll never miss the extra bucks.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 20.5 inches
  • Height: 3.75 inches
  • Depth: 21 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Very Easy

A transparent sliding top allows easy access. It measures 16 inches wide and 20.1 inches deep, and is extremely easy to install.

10. Rev-A-Shelf Under Sink Pull-Out Chrome Caddy

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest under sink caddy
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Heavy Duty and Holds Paper Towels

This under-sink organizer keeps your tall bottles of cleaning solution organized and provides a cradle for a paper towel roll. At a weight of 35 pounds, this unit may seem to be more hefty than necessary, but liquids are heavy, and if the bottom shelf is full, that’s a lot of weight to be supported.

Like many of the other under-cabinet units, this rolls out on brackets for easy access to the stored items. The top tray can be flipped to the other side to give room for plumbing fixtures and it can be removed entirely if needed.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 16.25 inches
  • Height: 11.25 inches
  • Depth: 11.25 inches

11. Rev-A-Shelf Mechanical Appliance Lift with Soft Close

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest kitchen lift device
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Helps Lift Heavy Kitchen Appliances

Do you have a gigantic, professional mixer and mixing bowl heavy enough to sink a cruise ship? Or a church social-size slow cooker that requires two deacons and and the church custodian to help lift?

If so, then this is an answer to your prayers. The Rev-A-Shelf heavy duty appliance lift installs under a standard kitchen counter and is capable of lifting up to 60 pounds.

First, the appliance pulls straight out. Then, heavy duty springs react to the slightest pull, and allows an easy, controlled lift up to working height. Returning it to the storage position is just as easy. A slight downward push directs it back down. The unit slides back in the bottom of the cabinet smoothly and silently, thanks to a soft-close damper.

This device also creates more counter space, because you’ve probably been keeping the heavy appliance on the countertop. So now, you can move it out of sight, out of mind.

It requires a cabinet opening of only 12.5 inches across, but it needs to be a full-height cabinet. If there is a drawer at the top of the cabinet, chances are it will have to be removed. The only other minor inconvenience is that the unit does not come with a shelf for the appliance. You will have to create a custom shelf to fit both the appliance you want to lift and the support bracket. There is a butcher block type of shelf/platform that can be ordered separately, but it seems a bit overpriced. It would be much cheaper to cut a hardwood board to size. That way, you could customize the shelf to the feet of the appliance you want to use it for.

The appliances you use with this model need not be heavy. You can use it with toasters, small microwave ovens, waffle irons, food processors, blenders and fry kettles.

The construction is all high-quality steel. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen Accessory
  • Width: 12 inches
  • Height: N/A
  • Depth: 19 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Intermediate

12. Rev-A-Shelf Two-Tier Soft-Close Cookware Base Organizer

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest cookware organizer
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Space-Saving Storage for Pots, Pans and Lids

Ca-rash! Out comes a volley of pots, pans, lids and whatnot spilling out on the floor, scuffing the tile, startling the family and chasing the dog into the nether reaches of the house. If this happens a lot at your house, pay attention. You might want to get this.

The Rev-A-Shelf two-tier cookware organizer lines up all of your stovetop cookware and keeps all of the various items tidy and out of the way. Yes, it will hold them ALL. (Unless you have so many, that they weigh over 100 pounds – the unit’s weight-bearing capacity.)

Heavy duty chrome wire, bent into configurations that will hold all the standard sizes of skillets, pots, pans and their assorted lids. It’s two-tiered: bottom tier for the cookware, top tier for the lids.

The two tiers pull out separately on strong brackets and close quietly, thanks to its soft-close slide system. Ah, peace and quiet!

You’ll need a base cabinet with a minimum 21-inch (width) by 24-inch (height) opening. It requires 22 inches of depth, but that’s fairly standard with kitchen cabinets.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Kitchen List
  • Width: 21 inches
  • Height: 18 inches
  • Depth: 22 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Easy

What’s the Difference Between Product Dimensions and Minimum Requirements?

The listed product dimensions comprise the actual size of the item – width, length and height. With under-counter items, the length may actually be expressed as depth.

But those dimensions should never be confused with minimum requirements. Minimum requirements describe the space that the item needs in order to be installed. Those will always be slightly larger than the product dimensions. The minimum requirements takes into consideration the mounting hardware, the trim pieces, the brackets and rollers that go with the item, not to mention the clearance that the item will need just to be put in place.

Therefore, always measure the opening in your cabinets. Do not assume they’re all standard, because they certainly are not.

When in doubt, call the Rev-A-Shelf customer service line at 800-626-1126.

13. Rev-A-Shelf Closet Tilt Basket Hamper

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest tilt hamper
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Convenient Way to Hide Dirty Clothes

You know that laundry hamper in the kids’ room that they’re supposed to toss their dirty t-shirts in? The one they miss all the time? This may or may not improve their aim, but it does do a great job of hiding away dirty clothes until laundry day (in some households that’s every day).

The 5.5-bushel wire basket lifts out in one piece for transport to the laundry room. All the metal parts are heavy duty chrome and the mounting hardware is high quality.

The drawback with this model is that you’re devoting a considerable amount of cabinet space to dirty clothes, and it only works with a bottom-hinged cabinet door. Some cabinet doors can be retrofitted with bottom hinges, however.

This would be a particularly good purchase to make during a time of remodeling, where cabinet make-overs are planned.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Bathroom Accessory
  • Width: 15.5 inches
  • Height: 19.73 inches
  • Depth: 13.5 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Intermediate

14. Rev-A-Shelf Pullout Hamper

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest pull out hamper
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Can Be Used with Any Standard Cabinet

This is somewhat similar to the tilt-out model listed above, except that the laundry hamper is plastic and the hamper rolls out rather than tilts out. The hamper holds 1.5 bushels of clothes. The steel brackets and roll-out rails mount to the cabinet interior and this is designed for a cabinet door with hinges on the side. The ball bearings ensure easy rolling for years to come.

Depending on the cabinetry in your laundry room or utility room, this could be installed there, as well as in a bathroom.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Laundry Accessory
  • Width: 20 inches
  • Height: 19.2 inches
  • Depth: 14.2 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Intermediate

15. Rev-A-Shelf Door Storage Trays, White

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest door storage
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Simple but Versatile

OK, yeah, this is low-tech. But it’s handy. Or rather they’re handy, because this item comes with two trays.

Installation could hardly be easier, with the four mounting screws on either end. They’re 14 inches across, 4.25 inches deep and 3.6 inches tall. So essentially, they’ll fit anywhere that has sufficient surface area.

They were meant to be behind the door, but they could be mounted inside the cabinet or on a wall. Heavy duty plastic gives these trays the strength to hold bottles of cleaning fluid with ease.

The Quick List:

  • Category:All-Purpose Accessory
  • Width: 13.75 inches (ea)
  • Height: 4.25 inches
  • Depth: 3.563 inches
  • Ease of Installation: Very Easy

The color temperature is 5000K (daylight). These handy lights can be surface mounted or flush mounted with a mounting ring (included).

They’re primarily recommended for under cabinet lighting in the kitchen, but they can be used almost anywhere in the house, and as shelf lights for curio cabinets and china cabinets.

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Bright Light; 12-Volt System

Whether you’re remodeling the kitchen or just the under cabinet lights (or adding some where none existed before), this three-piece kit is worth a look.

A simple 15-watt power transformer supplies 12 volts to the LED lighting fixtures by way of starter cords that are 79 inches long to accommodate almost every type of cabinet configuration. The output is 214 lumens, with a color temperature of 5000K – approximating the look of daylight around noon.

A nice feature is the four-step (if you count “off” as a step) dimmer. It’s not a switch but a quiet touch pad system.

This ships with three 12-inch LED light fixtures, three 79-inch starter cords, six straight mounting clips, six adjustable mounting clips, six six-inch linking cords, a power supply and a dimmer.

The Best Rev-A-Shelf Productsbest clothes rack for closet
The Best Rev-A-Shelf Products

Best Feature: Easy Access to Garments

Well, would ya look at that! This must have been the brainchild of someone who wanted to be a fireman when they grew up. It’s a brilliant concept – having clothes on a spiral cascade, where each garment hangs free and is easy to spot.

A steel pole adjusts from 72.5 to 84 inches (better get out that tape measure before you order) and the spiral piece attaches to that. It’s all heavy duty material, providing plenty of support for the maximum capacity. It may not look like it, but it has places for 40 garments, and you can probably double up on some of the hooks with a top and a pair of slacks that go with it.

It’s listed as a product intended for a corner closet, but it can be installed at one end of a walk-in closet.

Another benefit to this item is that the garments hang freely, without being scrunched against one another. That way, a garment can go straight from the dryer to the closet, still warm, and hang freely so as to let the wrinkles fall out.

Fully assembled, it measures 23 inches wide, 23 inches deep and stands up to seven feet tall.

The Quick List:

  • Category: Closet Accessory

  • Height: From 72.5 inches to 84 inches (adjustable)

Rev-A-Shelf Buying Guide

Before purchasing attachments and add-ons that would have you believe that they’re the most convenient thing since sliced bread, you need to determine for yourself if that really is the case.

Nearly every household has places that are just hard to get anything done in. Something is too hard to get to, too far away, or just sits in the wrong orientation to be of optimal use. There are places in every house where, for one reason or another, clutter just seems to reproduce.

So along comes the products that promise to fix all of that, to deliver you from the scourge of inconvenience and to set you up for a less stressful life. But can they?

Genuine Convenience

Before purchasing a labor saving item, take a moment to review how you get the job done now. Is it merely an inconvenience or is it taking a physical toll on you or on whoever does the task?

Say you’re 5’2” and have to step on a cricket stool to reach the pans in the over-the-counter cabinets. Over time, that can cause back problems or safety issues, if you were to lose your balance. A better, lower-to-the-ground system of storing heavy pots and pans would be a great addition to your kitchen.

Space: What Do You Gain, What Do You Lose?

Before purchasing a space-saving item, look at where you’re storing things now. Do you have to store things in illogical places because there’s not enough room in the places where they should go? Are there cans of tomato soup on the shelf over the dryer because the pantry’s too full?

Everything takes up space, even so-called space saving accessories. Make sure before ordering that you are fully aware of the space requirements of the item. Where will you put it, and what will have to be moved somewhere else to make room for the new item?

Virtually all of Rev-A-Shelf’s product listings include both the size of the item and the amount of space it requires.

How Fed-Up Are You With Your Current Situation?

Many times a doctor will ask a patient, “If things stay the way they are with this ailment, can you tolerate it?”  Apply that same logic to the areas you want to modify in your house. If you never get that roll-out laundry hamper you saw online, can you be content?

Often, the answer is, “Yes. . . but.”  And that’s OK.

Most of the items on our list are of the “gifts you give yourself” variety. The idea here is to approach these types of items with a sense of rationale, and not a reaction to overblown hype.

The Future of Rev-A-Shelf

All signs point to further growth of the Rev-A-Shelf brand, confirmed by its recent acquisition of Sidelines, Inc. of Scottsdale, AZ. Before the acquisition, Sidelines Inc. sold many closet and pantry organizers similar to those sold by Rev-A-Shelf.

It is not known what will become of the formerly competing products, but what is known is that Rev-A-Shelf has announced an expansion of its product line.
